How much do you charge for events?
The price for events depends on a number of factors such as the type of entertainment, number of people, length of time, and location. To discuss prices or receive a quote, please contact Erica.
What do you offer for a birthday party?
Erica offers a variety of entertainment options for birthday parties, including balloon sculpting, magic shows (featuring a live hedgehog!), airbrush tattoos, and more. Learn more
Which programs include the hedgehog?
Sedgewick the Hedgehog appears in all of Erica’s magic and storytelling shows, with the exception of the “Money Smarts” Magic Show and the “Very Buggy” Storytelling Show. Learn more
What is the hedgehog’s role in your shows?
Sedgewick the Hedgehog gives Erica and her audience a goal to work toward throughout each magic or storytelling show. He is mentioned several times to build suspense and to teach children about hedgehogs. At the end, “Sedgie the Hedgie” is revealed and then is on display for the kids to get a closer look. If the conditions are right, there may even be an opportunity for kids to pet him. To encourage smart animal-handling practices, Erica brings hand sanitizer for kids to use after touching the hedgehog. Learn more
What if I need multiple entertainers for my event?
If you are expecting high attendance at your event, you may require more than one entertainer. Erica frequently works with her sister and brother-in-law (Lea Craine Entertainment, based in Dayton, Ohio), and she has a network of other face painters, balloon artists, and magicians that she can recommend to work alongside her at your event.
With what ages do you work best?
Balloon sculpting and airbrush tattoos work well for all ages. Erica always says there is no “height limit”!
Magic and storytelling shows typically work best for ages 2–7. Erica emphasizes comedy and surprise more than illusions or sleight-of-hand, and this tends to be more appealing to younger audiences.
Balloon Workshops are best for ages 6 and above.
Do you require a deposit?
No; Erica allows the entire payment to be made on the day of the event. If your company policy requires otherwise, Erica is flexible with the payment schedule. There is no cancellation fee, as Erica knows you cannot control the weather or other factors.
What is the best way to handle payment?
Erica’s preferred payment methods are check or cash. Checks should be made payable to Erica Carlson Children’s Entertainment. Learn more
Can you provide audio amplification for your programs?
Yes; if necessary, Erica sometimes uses a wireless microphone and a 200-watt speaker system in larger or louder venues. However, she usually does not need this system for a typical birthday party or library program and prefers to be more interactive and personal with her audience.
